5 Fave Beauty Products This Fall
Did you know that trust is a key factor in long-term economic success? It may sound obvious but it’s more important than you might initially think. Studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between a country’s GDP and the number of people in that country who agree with the statement ‘most people can be trusted’. For example, I’m originally from Norway - a country known for having one of the highest GDPs in the world.
Well, Norway tops the list of people who agree with the statement ‘most people can be trusted’. Nearly 70% of people that was asked if they agreed with that statement said yes, which is a much higher percentage than many other countries with correspondingly lower GDPs. It makes you wonder if it’s the oil or the interpersonal trust that’s the real reason behind Norway’s success. Probably a combination.
So how does the subject of trust relate to the fashion industry and a career in fashion? For starters I’ll use myself as an example.

It’s no secret that fashion and beauty go hand in hand,
and so I thought I’d share my favorite new beauty products this fall.
Preparing for long days of fittings and castings I’m always on the hunt for the best new make-up that I can quickly apply in the mornings,
or throw in my bag for touch-ups throughout the day.
The same goes for new hair-treatments, and I also love trying the latest beauty services for the body.
And let’s not forget all the amazing cross-over items for the home (you can never have too many scented candles, right?!).
Discovering a product or service that’s innovative and really works always gives me such a kick!
I’m seeing a ton of creative and cool things that just hit the shelves this fall so let’s get into it…

Two Swimwear Favorites
Finally had the time to check out the new Halston documentary that came out earlier this year. It’s wonderful and I really recommend it! Did you know Halston started out selling hats in Bergdorf Goodman before he began work on his own line? The tale of Halston’s rise to the top is full of New York history and fabulous personalities like Elsa Peretti. The documentary also gives a nice glimpse into the genius of his designs and the elegant simplicity of his patterns.
One tip to get fit
Summer is right around the corner, so I thought I’d share my two favorite brands for swimwear! My most recent discovery and new favorite is ’Gigi C Bikinis’ (pictured above). The fit is amazing, the design is creative and the fabric is durable. My other long-time favorite is Norma Kamali; I have one of her rockin ‘Stud Chuck’ monokinis. So many cool styles to choose from on her website and I recommend getting one of her famous sleeping bag coats, as well!
An amazing fashion story
If I have to choose only one tip to give someone who wants to stay fit or get more fit, it would have to be this: prioritize. Even though media and social media may make it seem like partying until 3am every weekend won’t affect any other area of your life this is not the case. You have to choose: hero by day or hero by night! : ) Happy choosing! Xo, Selina The New York Fit Model
My fave fitness brands
One of my favorite podcasts is ‘How I Built This’ with Guy Raz. I’ve listened to every episode on my way to or from fittings in the garment district or downtown NYC. There are so many good episodes to choose from, and one of the best ones is fashion related: I’d like to recommend the one with Jenn Hyman, the co-founder of Rent The Runway. She is incredibly inspiring and demonstrates through the story of how she built her company that a great idea and not taking no for an answer can get you far. Enjoy listening! An Inspiring Book For Anyone (in the fashion biz)
One of my responsibilities as a New York fit model is to keep my measurements and size 4 consistent. Even though there is a difference between a fitness model and a fit model I really enjoy working out and taking care of my fitness. I find easier to get motivated to do this when I have cool workout clothes that fit properly. Here are my favorites brands: 1. Alo Yoga (my outfit in the picture is from them) 2. Pink ‘all day sport’ from Victorias Secret (they have some great high wasted leggings) 3. Nike ( love their hoodies and my running shoes are always Nike ). See you at the gym! xo, Selina The Fit Model
Best Workout/Chillout Playlists
Before I even knew what fit modeling was I was lucky enough to read this book. It has nothing to do with fit modeling, but everything to do with working in the fashion world/ fashion-related industries and how to conduct yourself in business in general. I really recommend ‘Leave Your Mark’ by Aliza Licht for anyone that needs a little inspiration or work-place common sense/ guidance. I am sure that I owe a percentage of my repeat bookings as a fit model to having read this book. Being a successful New York fit model really comes down to your reputation in the industry, which only can be created by doing right by people and doing a good job for them. Reading great books helps inspire great decisions and work ethic.
Favorite Fashion Photographers
I was super inspired in a fitting with a cool downtown designer client recently. Throughout the fitting he played a very urban and mellow instrumental beats playlist, which inspired me to find some similar playlists of my own. I don't know about you, but I don't always need full on dance music when I work out. Sometimes it's nice just to have a chill beat in the background while walking, running or doing some pilates in the house. My favorite playlist for chill, urban, hip-hop beats on Spotify are: 'Chillhop Study Beats','Mellow Beats' and 'Chill Instrumental Beats'.
Best fashion docs on Netflix
Some of my favorite fashion photography is by Irving Penn, Louise Dahl-Wolfe and Patrick Demarchelier. If you're feeling uninspired I really recommend taking some time to study their beautiful work - inspiration guaranteed! The picture above is shot by Irving Penn.
Best place for 2-minute lunch in Fashion District
Some of my favorite documentaries that I've watched lately have been fashion industry documentaries. On Netflix my favorite ones right now are: 'Dries' about Dries Van Noten, 'House of Z' about Zac Posen and 'Manolo' about Manolo Blahnik'. Outside of Netflix I also recently watched 'Diana Vreeland: The eye has to travel' via iTunes.
Recommend all of them!

My favorite place to grab a quick coffee and a toasted cheese bureka inbetween fittings is at Matto on 37th street between 7th ave and 8th ave. It's the tiniest coffee shop ever but all their items are only $2 so it's a great place for a grab and go if you don't want to spend too much.

What is a fitting model? And what's the difference between a fitting model and a fitness model?
Very simply explained, a fitting model tries on clothes.
Designers and fashion houses hire fitting models to make sure that their clothes will fit a real human body before mass producing them. The term 'fitting model' is often shortened to just 'fit model', which can be confusing since it's so similar to 'fitness model'.
'Fit model' and 'Fitness model' are not the same thing.
